YA Bachelor: Sam from The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater

Today, Becky from Becky's Barmy Blog is here to host Sam Roth from The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater for YA Bachelor's Month. So here she is to talk about all the reasons you should be loving Sam!

Name: Sam K. Roth

Age: 18

Origin: Mercy Falls

Book Featured In: Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Description: Sam has Golden Yellow eyes, and short, choppy black hair. He is average height and mostly wears casual jeans, t-shirts or sweats. He has a warm welcoming smile that puts you at ease and an interesting nose.

Sam loves to read, especially poetry, he can cook, write songs and play guitar.

Sam is also a Werewolf; he changes with the cold and so spends half the year as a wolf and the other half as human.

He had a rough childhood, after being turned his parents were convinced he was some kind of demon and so tried to kill him. He still can’t look at a bath in the same way.

Taken in by Beck and the other wolves of the pack, he grew up learning the life of a wolf, how to hunt and survive. But Sam clings to his humanity fiercely, he doesn’t want to lose himself and more importantly he doesn’t want to lose Grace.

When he is a wolf he smells of pine needles, cold rain, earth and peppermint, this smell lingers with him even when he is human. It gives the feeling of home. His fur is rough on the outside but soft and downy underneath.

Sam is eager to help others and has a fierce sense of loyalty and trust. He wants to do what is best for others and is always willing to step up.

My favourite lines from the book:

“I saw it. I saw her, in a way I’d never seen anything before.” Page 5
“She was past present future. I wanted to answer, but I was broken.” Page 70
“Everything I kept here was designed to get me back to humanity as quickly as possible.” Page 91
‘I didn’t think I belonged in her world, a boy stuck between two lives, dragging the dangers of the wolves with me, but when she said my name, waiting for me to follow, I knew I’d do anything to stay with her.” Page 128
“I found Sam curled on my bed, reading a novel by the light of my bedside lamp, looking like he belonged there.” Page 235
“I wanted to just leave, but I didn’t have any choice. Any possibility of leaving him behind had disappeared as soon as he’d said Grace’s name.” Page 350
“Thoughts were slippery and transient, faint scents on a frigid wind, too far away to catch.” Page 382

I love Sam because he makes the best of the life he’s got and has such a sensitive soul. He is sweet, charming, polite and respectful, not to mention cute and hot.

He would do whatever it takes to keep those he loves safe and has a great sense of loyalty, he may not be a macho man, but he will do all he can to protect you and is stronger than he looks.

If I could find a real guy like that, I would be happy.

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
