Waiting on Wedneaday (14): Red Moon Rising by Peter Moore

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine where you can post about upcoming books you're looking forward to.

Red Moon Rising by Peter Moore

Teen Wolf meets True Blood in this fun, boy-friendly story.

Being only half-vamp in a high school like Carpathia Night makes you a
whole loser. But Danny Gray manages to escape the worst of the specists at his school. Thanks to the genetic treatments he had as an infant, most people assume Danny's other half is human. Which is a good thing.

Ever since the development of synthetic blood – SynHeme – vamps have become society’s elite, while wulves like his father work menial jobs and live in bad neighborhoods.  Wulves are less than second class citizens; once a month they become
inmates, forced to undergo their Change in dangerous government compounds.

For Danny, living with his vamp mother and going to a school with a nearly all-vamp student body, it’s best to pretend his wulf half doesn’t even exist.

But lately Danny's been having some weird symptoms -- fantastic night vision; a keener-than-usual sense of smell; and headaches, right around the full moon.

Even though it's tempting to live in denial, it's hard to ignore evidence. There's only a month until the next full moon, and Danny's time is running out.

Peter Moore speaks to adolescents in a voice that will have them laughing, set in a world that will get them thinking.

I'm excited about this one because it twists werewolves and vampires around to tell a story that feels fresh (to YA fiction at least). Lately, vampire elitest (over humans) have been getting a lot of attention but I like that this one is vamps over werewolves and we had a protagonist (written by another male) who is stuck in the middle dying half of himself. I'm really interested to see how this books reads. I just really hope it's in first person!

Red Moon Rising is out February 15th 2011.

So what about you? What are you excited for?

  1. Good pick! Hope you come by and see my WOW!

  2. i'm kind of pulled in by the "boy-friendly" part, because that seems to promise more action than romance XD
I'm adding this to my TBR pile =)

  3. i'm glad to see more books for boys in YA! They want to read too, just not the same books as girls!

  4. I really like the sound of this book! And I'm always a fan of a YA book that has a guy as the main character.

  5. Oh I haven't heard of this one. but it looks really good! Great pick!

  6. Very interesting pick this week! This is the first I've heard of this one, but it's going on my TBR list!

  8. Nice pick! It does sound interesting! I just noticed that "moon" is often used as part of several titles of novels.

  9. Haha, this looks really clever! Thanks for sharing! :)

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
