Shelfmates #7

Some covers just work together...and some, not so much. I've decided to start up a semi-regular feature called Shelfmates to showcase series covers. I love getting the sequel to a novel and putting it up next to the first book so I thought this might be a fun way to do that on my blog! So here are some series covers and my opinions on how they look as a couple (or series...)!
Angelfire series by Courtney Allison Moulton
How awesome are these covers? I've always been a fan of the first two both together and apart but with the addition of the third, I'm about ready to propose. I think these look like great action packed books based on their covers which is good because there is a lot of action scenes in them. I'm glad they changed up the outfit in the third cover and I love the background!

The Chemical Gardens series by Lauren DeStefano
Can we say gorgeous? Both of these covers are stunning on the web and in person. Wither is one of my all-time favorite covers though, even more so than Fever. I love the dark blue and interesting white dress. I think these two compliment each other though. Both have amazing dresses and are similar enough to look like a series but different enough that you aren't going to get them confused.

Hush Hush series by Becca Fitzpatrick
These are by far some of my favorite covers ever. I don't think I could pick a favorite on threat of life and limb. I remember the first time I walked into the bookstore and saw Hush Hush on shevles. I was obsessed with it because of that dramatic and beautiful cover. Since then, all of the other covers have never failed to wow me. I love the romance and drama of the final book in the series Finale but no matter how you put it, separate or together these covers are great!
The Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater
These are another set of covers that I can't get enough of. I love how the shapes blend together in various shades of the same color and how even though this is a paranormal series they choose a white background. I think the simplistic shapes work so well wit hthe gorgeous writing it conceals. I don't have a favorite of these because they all work so well together!

These sets of covers are all wonderful. I'm not going to be able to pick a favorite out of them because I love them all. Which ones do you like?

  1. I LOVE the Chemical Garden covers. Although I don't really like the horse on Fever. Don't know why, I just don't. Then again I haven't read Fever yet so I don't know if it relates in some way. I'm also a big fan of the Hush Hush covers. I'm liking the last one a lot. Can't wait to see what dramas it brings :)

    1. The horse doesn't relate. They're just trying to get a dilapidated, drug-soaked carnival feel.

  2. I really don't like the Angelfire covers (well, I kind of like the first one), and I don't think they dovetail all that well together. I know you love the newest cover, but look at it in a big image copy and cover the top half. Pay attention to the arms, legs, the hand on the rock, the weapon. With the model's face covered, the picture looks cartoonish. I would not have known it was a real person. Because of these details, I think it's a photoshop fail. I do think they might have integrated in a really awesome way as a series if there were a wider tree or something on the left side of the cover. Notice in the first one, there's a rock filling the left side and a wall in the second. The third is open.

The others are really all amazing in how they fit together. The Chemical Garden Trilogy does a great job of having two very different covers stylistically that still clearly belong together. I like the Hush, Hush covers because they're so cinematic and you could almost make a flip book out of them. Wolves of Mercy Falls is great, too, but it's easier to make those match.

    1. I guess I can see what you mean about SitS but I still like it. I like your suggestions though.

You're right about the Hush Hush covers feeling cinematic. That's the perfect word to describe them!

  3. You featured some of my favorite covers this time around! The Maggie Stiefvater is series has GORGEOUS covers. I'm all about illustrated covers, and this is just the best of that type for me. And the Hush, Hush ones? *swoon* All of them are beautiful. Every single one. I'm torn between the first and second one as my favorite. Can't decide! :)

    1. That's funny that you love Crescendo. I think it is my least favorite of the four but that it isn't to say I don't like it. It's like the best of the best-est-est-est.

  4. Awesome picks! =D I love the covers of Hush, Hush and The chemical Garden series! Hush, Hush series covers are all so dramatic and drop dead gorgeous! But i've got to say Finale is my fave cover out of all of them. The Chemical garden covers are drop dead gorgeous too! I love how the models suit the characters and the plot.

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
