Teaser Tuesday (60) & Top Ten Tuesday (7)

TEAser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along, just do as following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • Be careful not to include any spoilers so as not to ruin the book for others!
Make sure to share the title and the author so other TT participants can add the book to their TBR piles!

Swoon by Nina Malkin
Basically, he lives (and I use this term loosely) to serve. Unless he gets too big for his britches. Then you're in deep shit.
--Pg. 187 of "Swoon" by Nina Malkin

I'm liking Swoon but I'm finding it a little bit hard to believe that it's a YA because of the very sexual scenes. I don't particularly have a problem with it but I'm not sure I'd let a kid under 16 read it because of it. I can definitely see why some people had a problem with it but I really like the main character Dice and the different type of monster mythology going on.

What's your teaser this week?

Top Ten Tuesday is a 10's list meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. There is a different question every week and all you have to do is answer their question with your top ten results!
Top Ten Books Outside of My Comfort Zone
 1) A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray- Before I found YA, I read all sorts of fantasy. I couldn't get enough. So wandering into the YA section and picking up a historical paranormal fiction just really wasn't my thing. The cover caught me and the premise sold me. A Great and Terrible Beauty is the reason I read YA today so I owe it a lot.
2) 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher- So I read YA fantasy and a little bit of paranormal now. That didn't mean I read contemporaries because they were boring. Who would want to read about real life when they could read about made up worlds? Then I picked up this novel and read the premise. I brought it home with from college and stayed holed up in my room, devouring every meaningful page. 13 Reasons Why made me a believer and expanded my taste even further.
3) Twilight by Stephenie Meyer- I'd branched out a lot but I still didn't like straight up romance. It made me a little twitchy all over. But, I digress. I saw the movie trailer and had to find out what this one was about (since I'd been wanting to write a vampires on animal blood diet books for years). Turns out I feel head over heels in love with the intense passion sandwiched between those pages. And you know what? I did like all the sweet things Bella and Edward were willing to do for each other. I liked it a lot.
4) The Harry Potter series- I'm sixteen and asking again "So wait, it's about an eleven-year-old boy who goes to school?". I just didn't get the appeal. But then I tried it anyway and after the first few chapters of the first novel, I got it!
5) The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein- This well written adult novel reminded why I love dogs. I've recently become a full fledge cat lady but oh, how Enzo melted my heart with his earnest love for his master and their sport.
6) The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent- I bought this novel to branch away from all the YA I'd been reading. Call it a palette cleanser. What it did was reinforce why I love YA in the first place. I thought it'd be full of excitement, being about the Salem witch trials but it was a slow-going read like trudging through the mud. I'm thankful for this book if only for showing me why I am the way I am.
7) The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger- My friend kept pestering me to read this one but I was on a YA kick (which as you know would turn out to be more of a lifestyle change) and din't want to. We were in line at the bookstore, she saw this novel in the bargain bin and through it on top of my pile and told me I'd thank her later. As a matter of fact, I did thank her later because I fell in love with this book!

That's not exactly ten but it's close enough. I read a lot of YA and every genre in YA that you can imagine so not much takes me outside my reading comfort zone unless it takes me outside of the YA section. What are some of the books that made your list?

  1. I found that the pace of The Heretic's Daughter reinforced the horror that they were going through. I have The Art of Racing in the Rain on my Wishlist!

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
