Book Tunes (12)

Book Tunes is a new meme that will be held on Fridays and the point is to share the book your reading and a song you think represents it. Be sure to include the novel you are reading, the summary, the song you think fits it and an explanation of why you chose that particular song. So snag yourself a button, write a post and link up at the bottom of the page!

The summary to Illusions from Goodreads:
Laurel hasn't seen Tamani since she begged him to let her go last year. Though her heart still aches, Laurel is confident that David was the right choice.
But just as life is returning to normal, Laurel discovers that a hidden enemy lies in wait. Once again, Laurel must turn to Tamani to protect and guide her, for the danger that now threatens Avalon is one that no faerie thought would ever be possible. And for the first time, Laurel cannot be sure that her side will prevail.

The Tune: Kill by Jimmy Eat World

The Lyrics:
Well you're just across the street
Looks a mile to my feet
I want to go to you
Funny how I'm nervous still
I've always been the easy kill
I guess I always will

Could it be that everything goes 'round by chance? (chance?)
Or only one way that it was always meant to be? (be)
You kill me, you always know the perfect thing to say (hey hey, hey hey)
I know what I should do, but I just can't walk away

I can picture your face well
From the bar in my hotel
I wish I'd go to you
I pick up, put down the phone
Like your favorite Heatmeiser song goes
It's just like being alone

Oh God, please don't tell me this has been in vain (vain)
I need answers for what all the waiting I've done means (means)
You kill me, you've got some nerve, but can't face your mistakes (hey hey, hey hey)
I know what I should do, but I just can't turn away

So go on love
Leave while there's still hope for escape
Got to take what you can these days
There's so much ahead
And so much regret
I know what you want to say
(I know what you want to say)
I know it but can't help feeling differently
I loved you, and I should have said it
But tell me just what has it ever meant?

I can't help it baby, this is who I am (am)
Sorry, but I can't just go turn off how I feel (feel)
You kill me, you build me up, but just to watch me break (hey hey, hey hey)
I know what I should do, but I just can't walk away

Why The Tune?:
Because Tamani is my favorite character and this is his anthem. He knows Laurel has made her choices, knows he isn't going to have her but he just can't let go. Now that he is truly her guardian, he sees her everyday and is reminded of the choice she made with every embrace Laurel has with David and he's still there for Laurel, no matter what. Laurel knows she's stringing him along, try as she might not to, and yet she can't stop because there is an attraction there. Because of that, Tamani won't leave. The line "Sorry, but I can't just go turn off how I feel" completely describes Tamani situation.

Have you read the series? What do you think of my choice in song?

  1. I haven't read this series so I can't say if it fits or not...but it certainly sounds right from your explanation. I love finding songs that fit books I've read!

  2. I got the first book for free on Amazon. I'm looking forward to reading it. I love the covers. They are so beautiful. I'm not really a faerie fan, but I hope these are as magical as the Iron Fey.

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
