Vanish (Firelight #2) by Sophie Jordan
To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.
Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?

Jacinda is so depleted, she can't fight with her and leaves with Will. At the hotel, Will tells her that his family decided to hunt and he didn't want to drawn attention but that he figured she would go back to the pride and wait for him. At the hotel, Will asks Jacinda to run but Jacinda refuses with the guilt of Miriam's capture hanging over her.
Jacinda goes back to the pride and Will says he will come back in a week for her. At the pride, she reveals that Miriam was captured and Severin demands she be publicly tried. Tamra meets her at her house and says they will stick together. At the trial, Jacinda's mother is banished and Severin orders Jacinda's wings clipped. Cassian pleads with his father and tells Jacinda they are going to be bonded so that she can avoid her wing clipping. That night, they go through with the bonding ceremony and Severin orders them to live in her old home. Cassian knows that Jacinda is happy and says they can take time to get to know each other better. Jacinda also notices that she can sense Cassian's emotions even though she swore the whole time that her heart belongs to Will.
Jacinda goes to visit Tamra and tell her that she is leaving. Cassian's cousin Corbin grabs her and tells her that he knows the bonding is fake and that he will have her. She burns him and runs. Tamra agrees to leave and Jacinda reveals that her mother left them a note. The next day, Jacinda and Tamra leave with the help of Az. They meet Will and then Corbin shows himself. Corbin says he will now have Jacinda and attacks Will who fights back, throwing up a wall made of earth. Cassian jumps into the clearing and knocks out Corbin but tells Jacinda they are going back. Tamra grows angry and tells Cassian they are going to bust out Miriam and Cassian insists on coming with them.
They stop for the night and Will and Jacinda cuddle up making Cassian angry. In the morning, Jacinda goes to look for Cassian and is attacked by a bear. Cassian comes and they fend it off together. But Will sees this and Jacinda is forced to reveal that they were bonded and the implications of that. Will isn't happy but he understands why she did it. Will drives them to a little city and points out a medical facilty stating that it is where the enkros are testing on the draki. They decide that they are going to take the whole thing out and Jacinda realizes that she doesn't feel so alone anymore.

OMG I love you right now! I am about 40% into Hidden and keep getting a little confused because I don't remember everything that happened in Vanish. This post is perfect! And such a great idea. I also thought there should be a place to read these things, like Cliffs Notes. Especially after long waits between books in a series. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I thought that too one day while reading Tempestuous by Livingston and googled the ending of the last book to no avail. Then I decided I should start doing them and it kind of spread from there. I love being able to use them and that other people can too.
DeleteGlad it helped you out!
Excellent idea! I just had to reread a few chapters of the last book in a series so I could remember what the hell was going on in the book I was trying to read. This is a really great idea. Someone should have thought of it sooner. Especially when there is a year or longer between books.

A few others and I have been doing these for about a year. I guess now would be a good time to have people re-post about these to spread the word to more people. Hopefully you can go through the list and a few you need in there!
