Hunger Games Movie Casting News

This movie has been bugging a lot of Hunger Games fans because casting is taking forever! I know I'm checking back constantly. I have faith though that they will find the right people for the parts.

Katniss-

It seems that Katniss is pretty much cast. Jennifer Lawerance is the SUPER front runner, beating out a slew of other amazing young actresses to grab the role. The pushing point: her age. They want her so they can cast a slightly older group of boys to via for her attention. This isn't official but it's pretty much a sure thing according to most websites. I don't mind her. They'll have to dress her down but I think she'd be pretty good!

Peeta-

In a surprise turn of events, it turns out that Josh Hutcherson really wants the part of Peeta and has auditioned for it. Though he hasn't been cast yet, I think he'd be a really great choice. He's not too model-like and he's got the perfect build for the part. He totally fits the word "stocky". Plus, he really wants it. According to Ology, he stated "I love Peeta... The character is so much who I am—self deprecating, a people person. And he’d be such a great character to play! Like in the third book? Oh my God". This is perfect! I want Peeta to go to someone who is a fan of the books and characters.

Gale-

Haven't heard much on Gale lately but last time he was talked about, it was said that Thomas McDonell was being considered for the part. I think he'd pretty much be perfect. This is exactly how I pictured Gale and I like the difference between him and Josh Hutcherson.

So that's all I know about casting thus far but I have to say, I'm pretty happy with these latest announcements.

  1. Katniss isn't a blond -.- I'm really not happy over the way they are leaning for the casting. I wouldn't mind Josh as Gale but i don't think i'd like him as Peeta.

  2. Can't wait for the film to be made. I suppose these choices are ok, they would have to dress Jennifer Lawrence down a lot, she looks a bit too much 'high school cheerleader' type in that picture, doesn't look like she's struggled through life like Katniss.
Sure it will be great when it's done though. :D
where do you go to get updates?

  3. I think Josh seems like a great Peeta! He looks like he he has that kindness and strength that would be needed.

  4. Well this made me stressed out.... I never considered any of those actors getting the parts for the movie. I know nothing's confirmed yet, but the casting director better know what he/she's doing.

  6. I had the same theory about why they're casting Jennifer--all the male frontrunners would be too old to play opposite an actress like Abigail Breslin or Hailee Steinfeld. I hadn't heard about Josh Hutcherson. I think he's a great actor so I'd be totally behind that casting.

  7. Josh as Peeta surprises me, but his excitement towards the role makes me think he might be a great choice! I've only seen him as the 'bad boy' character in movies, so it will be interesting seeing him play the 'weak, love stuck' boy!

  8. I'm not thrilled about having such an old Katniss, but I can see why they'd do it. If they have a kid do it, she can only work 5 hours a day. That'd really screw things up since she's in basically every scene. And Jennifer Lawrence is supposed to be a great actress. I imagine she'll do a good job.

  9. I could see Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, I love that he is a Hunger Games fan already. I think it could make a big difference if the actors actually *want* those roles. Not sure about Jennifer Lawrence though, she doesn't look at all like how I picture Katniss. Maybe it's just the blond hair though, LOL.

  11. Oh! I like Jennifer Lawrence!! I know some of the commenters are not liking this selection but it's up to Hollywood not us. LOL As for looking high school cheerleader well she was dressed for the Oscars and frankly was one of the best dressed there. I think producers and directors tend to cast older actors (she's only 21) because they are easier to work with and can handle tougher roles. Jennifer was great in Winter's Bone and proved she has the acting chops! Plus, she was nominated. And good for Hutcherson! I think he's a good actor, too.

  12. I love Jennifer Lawrence. She was a perfect choice for Katniss. I'm a huge fan of the books and personally I think they should have Hunter Parrish play Peeta. He would be perfect and he is already blonde.

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
