Interview & Giveaway: Jennifer Estep author of Touch of Frost & Kiss of Frost

Today, I've got the extreme pleasure of having Jennifer Estep on the blog. If you've been poking around the blog the last few week, you've noticed I've been reading Kiss of Frost, the second novel in the Mythos Academy series. I've been falling head over heels for Gwen, the comic book loving heroine of this series, and her crush Logan Quinn, resident bad boy who can pick up any object and know how to kill someone with it.

Jennifer Estep was kind enough to answer a few of my burning questions and offer up a copy of Kiss of Frost to one lucky US reader. Check out what Jennifer had to say!

1) Gwen and Daphne are about the cutest best friends in the world but if Gwen had a best friend from another novel (or comic book!) who do you think it would be and why?

JE: I think Gwen would be friends with Hermione from the Harry Potter series. They both like to read and do well in school, and they’re both using their powers to fight the good fight.

2) One of the things I love about the Mythos Academy series is the mythology. Can you share your favorite myth?

JE: One myth that I like is the story of Cupid and Psyche. It almost has a fairy-tale quality to it, as Psyche goes through different trials to find her way back to Cupid. Plus, it’s one myth that has a happy ending, as love conquers all in the end. I like that idea.

I haven't heard of this story before but I love it. Going to have to look it up!

3) Gwen's magic is just starting to mature in ways even she didn't expect. What kind of magic would you want?

JE: That’s a tough one! There are so many interesting powers out there. I think it would be fun to be superstrong or superquick. Being superquick would really come in handy when I’m writing a new book. I wouldn’t mind having super-strong wrists either to handle the wear and tear from all the hours on the computer. LOL.

Ha! That would be totally useful! I think you'd need super brain power too to keep up with your lightening quick hands.

4) You write both YA and adult. What made you decide to write a YA novel and how does your writing differ from YA to adult?

JE: I just had an idea for a book that I thought would work better as a YA story. Plus, you always want to grow as a writer, and I thought writing a YA book would be a fun challenge. So far, I’m having a blast writing the Mythos Academy series.

Both my adult and YA books have a lot of the same elements – a strong heroine, magic/world building, and lots of action/fight scenes. However, I would say that my YA books are a little lighter and not quite as dark and gritty as my adult books are.
5) Have you read anything great lately?
JE: One of my favorite reads this year has been The False Princess by Eilis O’Neal. I thought it was an interesting twist on a princess story.

6) Finally, can you tell us a little bit about what to expect in DARK FROST?

JE: Well, I can’t give out too many spoilers, so I’ll just say that DARK FROST builds on a lot of things that happen in KISS OF FROST. The goddess Nike gives Gwen a task at the end of KISS OF FROST, and Gwen spends a lot of time in DARK FROST trying to complete that task. Plus, I would say that DARK FROST is probably the most action-packed Mythos Academy book to date and that a lot of things happen in it that will drive the story/characters going forward.

DARK FROST will be out in June 2012. Folks can read the first chapter on my website – http://www.jenniferestep.com – as well as get more information about my books. Happy reading, everyone!

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
