Eve by Anna Carey
The year is 2032, sixteen years after a deadly virus—and the vaccine intended to protect against it—wiped out most of the earth’s population. Wildlife has grown over once recognizable landmarks, and the New America is ruled by a controlling King who will stop at nothing to rebuild the nation—including enslaving its boys and turning its girls into broodmares.
The Eve Trilogy is a breathlessly told story with an unforgettable heroine. Anna Carey has imagined a remarkable and unique world, and brings a compelling new voice to the dystopian genre. Eve offers a haunting glimpse of the global pandemic some scientists say is inevitable, and a world forever altered by its aftermath. Fans of Twilight and The Hunger Games will revel in this epic story of forbidden love, and an unforgettable heroine’s extraordinary adventure. Why I need this: Twilight fans AND The Hunger Games fans? I am proudly both so I must check this one out. I love a good forbidden romance story and I really like the way this new world has been broken down and recreated. I absolutely must get my hands on this novel!
Eve come out October 4, 2011 by HarperCollins.
The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson
A modern-day thriller about Rory, an American high-school student who enrolls at a London boarding school for her junior year. Soon after her arrival, a series of murders begins to take place across the city—on the exact dates and in the exact style of Jack the Ripper. Rory’s ties to the killer bring her in contact with a secret paranormal branch of the British police, as they attempt to stop the mysterious killer. Why I need this: I've read one of Johnson's novels before and enjoyed it. I'm crazy about the plot for this one. I love the idea of the ghost of a killer coming back and having to track it down with the British paranormal police! Plus, look at that cover!
The Name of the Star Comes out September 29, 2011 to Hyperion CH.
Wherever You Go by Heather Davis
Seventeen-year-old Holly Mullen has felt lost and lonely ever since her boyfriend, Rob, died in a tragic accident. The fact that she has to spend most of her free time caring for her little sister and Alzheimer’s-stricken grandfather doesn’t help. But Holly has no idea that as she goes about her days, Rob’s ghost is watching over her. He isn’t happy when he sees his best friend, Jason, reach out to help Holly with her grandfather—but as a ghost, he can do nothing to stop it. Is his best friend really falling for his girlfriend?
As Holly wonders whether to open her heart to Jason, the past comes back to haunt her. Her grandfather claims to be communicating with the ghost of Rob. Could the messages he has for Holly be real? And if so, how can the loved ones Rob left behind help his tortured soul make it to the other side?
Told from the perspectives of Holly, Jason, and Rob, Wherever You Go is is a poignant story about making peace with the past, opening your heart to love, and finding the courage to move forward into the light. Why I need this: This looks like such an emotional and interesting read. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose someone and try to move on when the one you love is still so close. I think poor Rob's side of the story is just going to be heartbreaking. Can't wait for this one either!
Wherever You Go comes out November 14, 2011 to Harcourt Children's Books.
I love the cover of Wherever You Go & Eve! Everytime I see Wherever You Go, I remember Heather's book - The Clearing. Maybe it's because of the colour. The Name of a Star sounds good too! I haven't read any of the books of that author but I'd give it a try if I can. :)
