Thank You, Red Riding Hood or Movie News

You may not of liked it, but darn it, you should thank it! And not just for:

Because of Red Riding Hood, Beastly and Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland's hype, a whole slew of fairytale re-tellings are in the worls and people are getting creative with them. I've been perusing them all day and I've got to say, I'm super excited for most of the projects. So here's a little layout of what I've found, categorized by fairytale.

Snow White

Snow White (2012)- After wavering on her end of a suicide pact, a young woman finds herself trapped in a fantastical nightmare world.

Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)- A huntsman is ordered to take Snow White into the woods and kill her but instead he chooses to let her go and the two are evidently chained together for part of the movie as they make their escape.

Actors: Kristen Stewart (Snow White), Viggo Mortensen (The Huntsman), Charlize Theron (The Evile Queen)

The Brothers Grimm: Snow White (2012)- A dark twist on the classic fairy tale, in which Snow White and the seven dwarfs look to reclaim their destroyed kingdom.

Actors: Julia Roberts (The Evil Queen)

Peter Pan

The.Never.Land.- John Swetnam wrote this spec script which tells the tale of Wendy and the title character with more of a Twilight spin on the story.

Untitled Peter Pan PitchJeff Rake wrote this script, which is more of a family adventure.

PanChanning Tatum is attached to star from a script by Billy Ray, which reimagines the original J.M. Barrie novel with a “Begins” storyline. Presumptively, Pan and Hook are brothers in this version.

NeverlandAaron Henry and Kirk Kjeldsen wrote this spec script where Peter Pan is actually the villain, abducting children in London. Captain Hook is the hero, a detective for Scotland Yard, who tries to stop him.

Hansel & Gretel

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2012)- Catching up with Hansel and Gretel 15 years after their incident involving a gingerbread house, the siblings have evolved into bounty hunters who hunt witches.

Actors: Gemma Arterton (Gretel), Jeremy Renner (Hanzel), others

Jack and the Beanstalk

Jack The Giant Killer (2012)A modern day fairy tale in which the long-standing peace between men and giants is threatened, as a young farmer leads an expedition into the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing a kidnapped princess.

Actors: Nicholas Hoult (Jack), Stanley Tucci, Ewan McGregor, & others

I have to say, that out of all these wonderful re-tellings, I'm most excited about Peter Pan. I love that story so much. I think the one with a Twilight twist sounds the best to me because I've always liked Peter Pan as a tragic love story.

Do you know of any others? Which fairytale re-telling sounds most exciting to you?

  1. Wow, THREE Snow White movies in one year? I'd heard of two of them, but three's just crazy! I think the Hansel and Gretel one sounds really cool. I love the lead actors and we don't really get too many movies with brother/sister protagonists.

  2. I don't like that they are making so many of Snow White and Peter Pan..I mean to much of a good thing could be bad. I do like the sound of the hansel and gretel one though. :)

  3. I like the Peter Pan one where he's the bad guy and Captain Hook is the good guy. I love the role reversal there.

Amazing how many fairy tales are being retold now.

  5. I always laugh when people say "a dark twist on a classic fairytale" because originally, they were all dark! Cinderella's step sisters cut their toes off to fit in the slipper and birds gouged their eyes out, its some heavy stuff :) Neverland sounds like a cool one to look out for, I like the twist that Peter is bad, Hook is good :)

  10. LMAO. Ok, some of these seem kind of silly. But I can't wait to see the trailers for some of them... Especially Hansel and Gretl.

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
