Born At Midnight by C.C. Hunter
It is revealed to Kylie and the other campers that unless the animal killings at a nearby animal refuge are stopped, the camp will close down. It also comes to Kylie's attention that Lucas is the main suspect in the case and that Lucas has fled. Kylie comes up with a plan that mainly involves Derek's ability to communicate with animals. They are able to create a distraction to get Derek in and he is able to get the answers.
Unfortunately for Kylie and the others, they are attacked by a gang of vampires and must fight to get out. During the confrontation, it is revealed that Sky is actually the one that has been causing all the trouble for the campe but only because the vamp gang (The Blood Brothers, I believe) have her little sister. Because Derek is able to confirm all this, they are able to keep the camp open.
During the fight and during a previous incident, Kylie's soldier ghost helps save her. She realizes that her gifts aren't so bad and later on with her Mom, she guesses that the soldier is actually her real father which her mother confirms. She also asks her mother if she can stay on at the camp which is now turning into a full time school so that she can discover who she is. Her mother says they'll have to discuss it.
Though Kylie has not found out what she is exactly, she finds friends and people who love her for who she is. She also finds peace with her mother. She thinks she really likes Derek but is confronted with a letter from Lucas. Unwilling to let his absence and the confusion he brings ruin her night, she goes with Derek into a party celebrating the camp's new status from summer fun to full time supernatural haven and for a little while, all is right in Kylie's world.
Did that sum it up for you? Was there an important detail I missed? Please let me know! I'll definitely being doing more installments of these for myself so I want to make them as good as possible.
I like your Happily Ever Endings! I always forget how the first book ends so when the second book is released, I don't really feel like reading it anymore because I can't remember what's going on ):
