I'm not sure about this cover. I think it's one that is going to have to grow on me. Really like the plot though!

Fall to Pieces is out  October 2nd 2012 by Marshall Cavendish.

Doesn't this cover look like it would feel bumpy to touch on the right hand side? That's all I can think about. I do think it is pretty in a simple way.

Going Vintage by Lindsey Leavitt
The story of a girl figuring out the truths and illusions of life and love, both in the nostalgic past and in the very real now. Laugh-out-loud humor combines with a hint of romance in this delightful contemporary novel.
The cure for a broken heart? Go vintage and live like it’s 1962!
Mallory’s boyfriend, Jeremy, isn’t just cheating on her. He’s cheating with an online girlfriend. So Mallory decides to swear off boys and modern technology. Inspired by a list of goals her grandmother made in 1962, Mallory decides to “go vintage” and return to a simpler time. She sets out to complete grandma’s list: run for pep club secretary, host a dinner party, sew a homecoming dress, find a steady, do something dangerous.

The list proves to be trickier than it looks. Obviously finding a steady is out . . . no matter how intriguing she finds Oliver (er, Jeremy's cousin). But with the help of her sister, Mallory will finish the list and find peace. .
Somehow.
Going Vintage is out 2013 by Bloomsbury.

How cute is this cover? I love the odd mixture of hot pink and lime green with the girl in black. It's the perfect cover for the summary. Really looking forward to this one!

So there you have some of thr wonderful covers released lately. Anything caught your eye?

A Fairy Tale in Photos- Aladdin

I'm looking for something fun to do on Fridays and I figured that this might be something interesting. As you all can probably tell by the theme of this blog, I really love fairy tales. I've been looking through Deviantart and thought it might be fun to pick a fairy tale and showcase pictures I like from it.

This week, I'm going to show you some Aladdin stuff!

These photos were a little harder to find though I have to admit, there were a lot more of Aladdin than I thought there would be. I think this last one and the very first one are both super cute of Jasmine and Aladdin.

My favorite one has to be Jasmine walking in the desert. I love that pop of blue among all the golden sand. Which do you like?

Waiting on Wednesday: Erasing Time by C.J. Hill

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill of Breaking the Spine where you can post about upcoming books you're looking forward to. This is a wonderful chance for blogger to show off what's coming out soon that they are excited about! Every week my wishlist balloons thanks to this awesome meme.

Erasing Time by C.J. Hill
In this high-action and romantic futuristic adventure, there is no escape from the future for two contemporary girls pulled out of their own time.
When twins Sheridan and Taylor wake up 400 years in the future, they find a changed world: domed cities, no animals, and a language that’s so different, it barely sounds like English. And the worst news: They can’t go back home.
The twenty-fifth-century government transported the girls to their city hoping to find a famous scientist to help perfect a devastating new weapon. The moblike Dakine fights against the government, and somehow Taylor and Sheridan find themselves in the middle. The only way to elude them all is to trust Echo, a guy with secrets of his own. The trio must put their faith in the unknown to make a harrowing escape into the wilds beyond the city.
Full of adrenaline-injected chases and heartbreaking confessions, Erasing Time explores the strength of the bonds between twins, the risks and rewards of trust, and the hard road to finding the courage to fight for what you believe in.
Erasing Time is out August 28th 2012 by Katherine Tegen Books.

I choose this novel because I'm a huge fan of twin books. I love exploring the bond between them and couple that with somehow getting pulled into the future and I'm definitely there. I tend to really like novels from Katherine Tegen books so I know this one will most likely be for me!

The Doctor (Who?) is in this House

I've been just a wee bit distracted these past few days and it has happened completely by accident. So basically I was wandering around Netflix, looking for something to watch when I just happened to give Dr. Who a try. I mean, I've heard of it before and know it has a cult following and I knew the basics--time-traveling alien with a blue police box called the TAR-something. Heck, I even had a t-shirt that featured the good Doctor on it though I didn't know it was the Eleventh Doctor until very recently.

But I digress.

I started out slowly, an episode or two every few weeks but these last couple of days, I've become sort of hooked. Now it's like an obsession. It's killing me to go to work and have to stop watching and I can't wait to get home and continue.

On my down time, i.e. when I am working, I've read up on the show. I wanted to understand what these numbered doctors mean so I went to Wikipedia and starting reading. For those of you who don't know, this show was started 1963 and went through 26 seasons plus a whole slew of specials. Then it was canceled and didn't reappear until a made-for-tv movie in 1996 that was supposed to revive the series though this didn't happen. Finally, the series was revived in 2005 and is still going strong today. What these numbered doctors are is a clever way to keep the show going but to "pass on" the role of the Doctor to different people.

Basically, in the show they have given the Doctor the ability to regenerate himself when he is dying so that he will have an entirely new body (thus giving someone else a chance to play the Doctor). I think this is beyond genius because they have created a potential never ending show since they will never lose their main character. So that is where the numbered doctors come from. The Doctor has had 11 reincarnations so they label the Doctor by his reincarnation. So the 2005 show started with the Ninth Doctor and it is currently broadcasting the Eleventh Doctor.

I think this might be the most genius thing I've ever heard of. It allows the show to go into whatever direction it wants to go in and can change actors (or give them the ability to leave) at the drop of a hat. I'm also obsessed with this idea that the Doctors pick up "companions", that is to say people/aliens/robots to travel with them for company.

I'm currently in Season 2 which has just introduced the Tenth Doctor played by David Tennant whom I think I am really going to like. It's funny because my first memorable encounter with this actor was him playing Barty Crouch Jr in Harry Potter so it's hard for me to look at him as the good guy. However, his sexual tension with Rose is absolutely delicious and as I continue watching, I'm finding it hard not to love him. This is particularly impressive since the Ninth Doctor forced me to like him even though I didn't find him all that handsome (which for me made me like him all the more).

I like that he his witty and talks very fast, especially when working something out, but it also gives him just a bit of untrustworthiness because he could very well be insulting you in the middle of it and you might never know. I also like that he doesn't realize he's being rude and has to often ask.  He sort of like a fast talking New Yorker who is actually British.

Basically, I'm hooked. I really like watching this show that combines good old fashioned horror with strong sci-fi elements, time traveling, a dash of romance and lots of fast paced dialogue ala Joss Whedon. So that's my update. I plan on blogging about how Doctor Who is like my other favorite childhood tale Peter Pan in a few days so keep your eyes peeled if you are a fan of the show or are thinking about getting into it. I'm also going to post some fun merchandise I love soon too!

So what about you guys? Seen it? Plan to? Love or hate (but if you don't care for it, keep the comments respectful--not that you guys won't since you are all wonderful)?

Transcendence by C.J. Omololu
It's one of the least elaborate carvings here--no names, no fancy drawings, just a few mysterious words and a date. Somehow, it feels like the most important one in the place.

--Pg. 15 of an ARC of "Transcendence" by C.J. Omololuu
I'm not too far into this book but it isn't the book's fault. Basically, I've been wrapped up into a t.v. show as of late and it's been hard for me to concentrate on reading even though I like the idea of this one. I'm hoping to get further into it in the next few days.

What's your teaser?

Shelfmates #6

Some covers just work together...and some, not so much. I've decided to start up a semi-regular feature called Shelfmates to showcase series covers. I love getting the sequel to a novel and putting it up next to the first book so I thought this might be a fun way to do that on my blog! So here are some series covers and my opinions on how they look as a couple (or series...)!

Newsoul series by Jodi Meadows
I was pretty sure that no matter what the cover artist did, he wasn't going to top Incarnate for me because Incarnate is just so beautiful. It is seriously one of my favorite covers of all time. Then they debuted Asunder and my jaw dropped. How can Asunder be even prettier? Together, these to make a fine pair as well! I'm in serious love with these covers and series!

The Watchers series by Veronica Wolff
I don't think these covers are anything too special. In fact, I actually don't think they look all the young adult. However, the first two aren't bad to me even though those faces do not look teenage. I'm less fond of the third since it doesn't follow the same pattern as the first two. Overall, my favorite has got to be Vampire's Kiss mostly because of the background color. I'm left sort of underwhelmed by these covers which is sad because I hear the story is great.

Shadow Falls series by C.C. Hunter
I was sort of obsessed with the Born At Midnight cover because it really intrigued me. I think the second and third are nice as well though not as good as the first. The fourth cover is interesting but it doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the series. The model is in different clothes and there is a lot more going on with that broken down fence. Overall, I have to say that I like the first cover the best.

Lost Voices series by Sarah Porter
I loved the fresh feeling of the Lost Voices cover. Seriously, I still think it is brilliant and makes me want to go swimming right now. I think they were able to capture that again with the second one as well. The little dots (rocks or jellyfish?) add interest and I like the murky looking water. These two work well on their own and as a pair.

Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout
So I like these covers okay but I have a few complaints that keep me from loving them. The models are nice looking but they don't look like teens to me. Also, I'm not a fan of the washed out coloring of the background. I think both the green and the blue are just not pretty. I wonder if this is just the photo and they are better in real life but I'm just not feeling the faded colors. However, I've heard they are amazing novels so I'm not letting them put me off.

A Need So Beautiful series by Suzanne Young
I'm a big fan of these books. I think it's because of the airiness of the coloring. A Need So Beautiful has such a nice sunshine feeling in the yellow and A Want So Wicked looks ethereal in that blue. I think that even the simplistic look of the model's face adds to that softness about them. While these covers aren't groundbreaking, they certainly are pretty.

My favorite bunch in the batch, hands down, has to be the Newsoul covers. They are too pretty for words! Which covers leave you wanting more and which are a little less perfect to you?
