Hafsah, Ivy, Katie, and Kelsey started a program for more experienced bloggers to help out others that are newer to the whole blogging thing. All you have to do is fill out a form and they will contact you! Here's a link to Ivy's page (since it's the first one I found) but you can check them out on all the blogs!
Now I'd like to introduce you to my super fantastic Little Sis. We've been chatting via e-mail for the past couple of weeks and I love her so much it hurts! I'm pleased to introduce you to Jessica from The Midnight Bookworm.
I picked her blog because of the lovely design, the fact that we had similar reading tastes and she seemed like a generally awesome human being. And you know what? I was right on all levels. She's teaching me about the merits of Grey Anatomy and dual majoring in college and I'm...well... I'm answering back! I decided that in order to get to know her a bit better, I'd interview her. So here are my questions and her answers:
1) Why did you sign up for the Big Sis/Little Sis program?
I think this is a super fun way to meet other bloggers around the country, one that’s into the same type of books I am. And I’m glad you found me! :)
2) What were you hoping to get out of it?
A blogging buddy. :) I don’t talk to many people in real life, I go to school in a small town & I hate the school for the most part. I like the girl I live with though :)
3) What made you decide to start blogging?
I needed something to keep me motivated to keep reading while up at school, so now I read for the blogging.
4) What's your best experience with blogging? Is there anything you don't like about it?
I don’t know if I’ve had a “best” experience yet. The only thing I don’t like about blogging is keeping up with it, and keeping it interesting (which I don’t think I am right now). My school work is insane right now and I never thought I’d have this much to do for a semester.
5) What does your blog focus on?
Young Adult books. Right now it’s mostly weekly memes to showcase different books, and reviews. I plan to eventually start doing more events, interviews, giveaways (when/if I ever get money to afford it), and more reviews.
6) What are you top 10 must reads?
These are probably going to change within the next few months because I haven’t read a LARGE majority of the books I’m hearing awesome things about. Most of these are series because that tends to be what I read a lot.
In no particular order:
1. Anything by Tera Lynn Childs (Fins series, Oh. My. Gods. series, Medusa Girls trilogy)
2. Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling (yes, I am a half-hypocrite here because I’ve only read 4.5 of these books, but I do think they’re a necessity in life, and I will read them sometime).
3. Twilight Series (Saga? I’m not sure what the difference between a series and a saga is.) by Stephenie Meyer (Yea… I’m one of THOSE people, I’m obsessed, and have read all of them multiple times)
4. TTYL Series by Lauren Myracle (The FIRST books to be written entirely in IMs, they’re so much fun, and super quick reads. I would categorize these as Tween books, somewhere between middle grade and YA).
5. Pretty Little Liars Series by Sara Shepard (because they’re freaking awesome! And if you’ve seen the ABCFamily TV show it’s completely different from the books so far so I can’t figure out where they’re going with the show which is good).
6. The Gallagher Girls Series by Ally Carter (One of my favorite authors of all time, and
7. Speak/Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson (both are issues books, and super inspiring. I absolutely loved these stories, and they both made me more aware of what some people have to go through).
8. The Girl Who Owned a City by O.T. Nelson (First ever dystopian I read, I am still trying to track down a copy of this book because I want to re-read it. I had to read this for school in 6th or 7th grade, it’s definitely an amazing book).
9. The Giver by Lois Lowry (Another dystopian I read, and I loved but didn’t know what dystopians were at that point).
10. Stranger with My Face by Lois Duncan (I don’t even know how to describe this book, it’s just amazing. Twins switched at birth with the power to project their spirits from their bodies).
7) Favorite word?
Fantastic – I use this word a lot in normal conversation, I don’t know why, it’s a weird word to use to describe EVERYTHING, but that’s what I do with it. :)
8) If you could be best friends with one or two characters, who would you choose and why?
SO HARD! I would have to say the girls from Lauren Myracle’s TTYL Series because they’re super fun. Between the three of them (I cheated, I pick 3), I don’t think there would ever be a dull moment. (There's probably others that I'd love to be friends with, but I can't think of them right now).

Do you guys see why I love her? She cheats! And she has awesome taste in reading!
I'm telling you all about this to introduce my amazing Little Sis and to encourage you to sign up. It's a big old blogosphere out there and I can't express to you how epic it is to have someone who has your back. Now to celebrate, I'm giving away a book!

Yes I think is useful because it could help all the new bloggers out there who don't know what they are doing or just to put their blog out there and get to know another bloggers. Like me I would love to start a blog but I have no idea how to start it and if I can keep up with it, etc.
ReplyDeleteSo I think is a clever and fantastic idea to put out there others bloggers.
I think the program would be really helpful because it would help lil sibs to find new followers which half the time means new friends which means it's awesome :)
ReplyDeleteI started blogging because I wanted to bring my writing skills up to par since I didn't write very much in college.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great program or way to mentor new bloggers. When I was starting blogging before, I just had to find my way, learn on my own, but later on discovered that a lot of bloggers are open to suggestions, questions to improve your blog, etc.
ReplyDeleteMentoring programs are always good to see as they can really help a new blogger avoid many of the pitfalls in blogging, so good for you for ofering up your time to help new bloggers.
ReplyDeleteI must say that the book blogging community always seems ready to help anyone who comes across problems with things on their blogs.

I think this program will be very useful to people who are new to blogging. It's a great way to meet new friends and I would have loved to try it if I hadn't been a different type of blogger (I don't review books, I just.. write stuff about my day or I create short stories. Yeah.)
ReplyDeleteI hope this program succeeds!

I think this program is useful for bloggers to know each other and for them to share experiences.
ReplyDeleteAnd my favorite word is AMAZING.
Thanks a lot for the chance!
This is a great idea (I might even join myself) to help newcomers getting into blogging, and bringing a sense of community to the blogging world! Wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt's really a great program! Unfortunately I don't have time to fully commit, but I'm always happy to answer questions people email me ^^
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway =)
That is an awesome project..I hadnt heard of it before..but I am on my way over there to read into it now. Great interview by the way
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great idea. I'm always looking for new blogs to follow. It really helps to have an introduction like this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
I think that its really very nice and sweet of you to support this program and that it will certainly be very useful for new bloggers.

Oh it's a really great idea ! I think it's very difficult some time to start a blog. The interview was very interesting and It allows us to discover someting new. I know it's difficult somtinmes. I'm just starting to create my blog and there are so much to learn.
ReplyDelete=) Very awesome of you to support the program and to support and let people get to know your lil sis. =) I signed up for the program a few months ago, but sadly I haven't been contacted yet. =/
ReplyDeletethe program sounds like fun. i am also thinking about starting my own blog and that would be a major help - getting tips and tricks from bloggers with experience. also, you get to have a friend in the blogosphere already. awesome idea.
ReplyDeleteI think that everyone needs someone to help them when they get started. I had a friend point me in the right direction when I got started, but it has to be hard for people who don't know anyone to ask.

I think it's a great idea. I've thought about starting a blog before but it's always so daunting. It would really help those people out.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! It can be daunting when starting out seeing all these blogs with hundreds (thousands) of followers, getting ARCs and author interviews, so it's a fantastic way to encourage nurturing and support! Good one!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a really good idea because you get to help out other bloggers and it lets you get to know other bloggers too.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an AMAZING program! I think it's awesome that it brought you and Jessica together, you guys seem to have really hit it off. I might sign-up for it myself, I want a Big Sis! Thanks for bringing it to our attention. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! It also very cool of you to participate. Jessica, good luck with the blog!
ReplyDeleteI think it is a wonderful idea. The whole point of book blogging is sharing about things we love and books we are interested in. I am fairly new to this world and still feeling my away around and I think it would be much the same and even more so were I starting a blog. Being able to share and lean on each other is a good thing.
ReplyDeletereach to other bloggers,
ReplyDeletewiden your blogosphere
widen your mind
gain experience
socialize!
=)
I think this program is really great. I know that if I decided to start up mu own blog I would need help. I seems like a great way to not only get help but to meet other bloggers.
ReplyDeleteI think this program is an amazing idea! I started blogging as a way to share things I love. Blogging also keeps me busy whilst job hunting and preparing for grad school. :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Your lil sis is fantastic!
I decided to start blogging because I love books and I wanted to met new people!! Thanks for the giveaway!!

Amber,
ReplyDeleteThis is a great thing you've done. Wish it was around when I started. Way to be a great mentor!
It's easier to see how many entries and easier to track. I’ve seen tons of people using Rafflecopter for their giveaways, and it looks like a really great widget to have.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway! Sounds like an awesome program.
ReplyDeleteI think that program is great for new bloggers, because they can get info from bloggers which have blog a long time...
ReplyDeleteGreat interview!
My favorite word: awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to be friends with Rose Hathaway.
What made me decide to start blogging is the fact that we were going to college and my friends and I were finding a way to get in touch.
ReplyDeleteI love the Big Sis/Little Sis Blogger Program! I thought it was a great way to help out a fellow blogger and at the same time meet someone new. :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great program! I don't know if I'm ready to be a Big Sis myself, but I sure wish I known about this when I'd first started!
ReplyDeleteI just want to say thanks to everyone for all the comments, and taking the time to read the interview! This program has been tons of fun so far, and I encourage anyone who is new to blogging to look into it. And if you're thinking about starting a blog, you definitely should, it's super fun and if it turns out to not be for you, it's easy to stop! :) Everyone I've met in the book blogging community has been SO nice and super helpful if I ever have questions, so it's a great crowd of people to get in with! :)
ReplyDelete- Jess <3
The program will be really helpful to new bloggers. I want to be book blogger as well, but I think I can't manage to keep up a blog and do school work. But new bloggers will learn a lot from all your blogging experiences. Not only that, they'll find new friends and make blogging more fun. :)
