Original Sin (Personal Demons #2) by Lisa Desrochers
Luc Cain was born and raised in Hell, but he isn’t feeling as demonic as usual lately—thanks to Frannie Cavanaugh and the unique power she never realized she had. But you can’t desert Hell without consequences, and suddenly Frannie and Luc find themselves targeted by the same demons who used to be Luc’s allies.
Left with few options, Frannie and Luc accept the protection of Heaven and one of its most powerful angels, Gabe. Unfortunately, Luc isn’t the only one affected by Frannie, and it isn’t long before Gabe realizes that being around her is too…tempting. Rather than risk losing his wings, he leaves Frannie and Luc under the protection of her recently-acquired guardian angel.
Which would be fine, but Gabe is barely out the door before an assortment of demons appears—and they’re not leaving without dragging Luc back to Hell with them. Hell won’t give up and Heaven won’t give in. Frannie’s guardian exercises all the power he has to keep them away, but the demons are willing to hurt anyone close to Frannie in order to get what they want. It will take everything she has and then some to stay out of Hell’s grasp.
And not everyone will get out of it alive.Click "Read more" to read the ending of Original Sin so you'll be ready for the next installment of the series!
After Frannie catches Luc in bed with Lili, she casts him out and Gabe comes back, trying to help her cope with this thing she calls her life. Luc realizes Frannie is getting over him when he becomes a demon again and Rhen shows up to drag him back to Hell. In Hell, the devil tortures him publicly but Luc is able to defy him and not change into his demon self. Frannie sees the dream and goes to Luc's to check on him but is met by Lili. Using the same mind voodoo as she did with Luc, Lili and Frannie fight but Lili is able to overcome her. In Lili's body, Frannie meets the devil and feels like she knows him. Luc and Gabe come at the last minute and save her but Lili gets away in Taylor's body.
Luc doesn't want to stay but agrees to help Frannie. They take her home and he and Frannie kiss and he is able to possess her even though she is tagged for Heaven. This freaks Luc out and he backs way off. Frannie has a vision of Taylor dead and decides she must help her. She tells Luc and Gabe Taylor is at the Cove while knowing she is at the Gallagher's house. She finds Taylor (Lili) and Marc at the house and starts to convince Lili that she is tagged for Hell so she'll leave Taylor's body. During that time, Angelique wanders over and Lili jumps into her body but not before stabbing Taylor.
Luc finds Frannie just as she is about to stab Angelique under Lili's spell. He manages to take Frannie away as Lili and Marc flee in Angelique's body. Then Luc leaves after Taylor's funeral and Frannie is left with Gabe who she can't have and her grief. Luc becomes human again and intercepts Frannie as she is coming to his old apartment. Rhen phases in and demands to be made human too, saying that there is going to be a rebellion in Hell since Luc was able to defy Lucifer. Luc and Frannie head to Gabe's and Gabe says Frannie is leaving. Frannie freaks and runs out to the park. Luc catches her but Angelique is there. Frannie is about to kill her again but Gabe saves her.
Frannie begs to go back for Luc but Luc shows up on their front steps covered in blood and not speaking. Gabe tells Frannie that her sway only seems to work on those she loves. Frannie accepts she must leave and packs but doesn't know what happened with Luc or if he's coming with her. We're left with her question of him coming in the air. Then, we see Matt in Hell, practicing his new power a demon... mind torment. He is set on using it against Frannie and Luc who he blames for putting him there. He and Lilith are together.Did I miss an important detail? Feel free to leave it in the comments!
