Happily Ever Endings...Incarnate by Jodi Meadows

Happily Ever Endings... was born out of sheer frustration. You know how when you read a series and you love it but the last book takes a little while to come out and then you sort of forget parts of the novel? That's what these posts are going to serve to remedy. Happily Ever Ending... is a short post about what happened at the ending of each book that is going to be in a series for people who need a quick reminder of what happened in the previous installment. I hope this saves someone else the frustration that I went through!
Incarnate by Jodi Meadows
New soul
Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why.
No soul
Even Ana's own mother thinks she's a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she'll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame?
Heart
Sam believes Ana's new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana's enemies--human and creature alike--let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else's life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?
Jodi Meadows expertly weaves soul-deep romance, fantasy, and danger into an extraordinary tale of new life.

After the masquerade, Sam and Ana go back to Sam's house and decide that they are going to be together. Since they were attacked, they stay together and talk a little before a knock on the door interrupts them. Sam goes to answer it and Ana hears Meuric and Li at the door. She rushes down in time to see Sam yanked out of the house and arrested for plotting to kill her. Meuric gives her back to Li after collecting books from Sam's room on her parent's that he said weren't there. Li vows to train her better this time but Ana knows it must be because the Council offered her money. Li burns Sam's song Ana Incarnate and makes Ana run laps and learn boring things, all the while being cruel to her.

After Li burns her song, Ana resolves to leave and sneaks out after curfew. She runs to the library and Council building and finds a window to the jail. Stef is there as well as Sam and his other friends. She asks Sam to go with her and run away. Sam agrees even though Stef tries to talk him out of it, saying that he will likely spend his next life imprisoned. Thunder begins before they can form a plan, signaling that dragons are attacking. Ana runs to take cover and flees through a door. She realizes that she is in the odd, creepy temple and that a door just appeared. It is blindingly white inside but she manages to find steps and begins to walk, searching for an exit. She comes to a room full of books and picks up a few to put in her bag even though she can't read them.

In a room with a pit on the ceiling, she hears a deep voice and believes it is Janan. She asks him what she is and he replies "mistake". Then she sees Meuric. He confirms that she is in the temple and tells her to come with him. But she knows he is going to trap her in there and sees him dig in his pocket to check for something. They wrestle and Ana sticks her knife in his eye and knocks him into the pit.  Meuric dies but she takes the device to get out. She fiddles with it and ends up on the outside of the temple almost at the top. Dragons are attacking so she hitches a ride to the ground and searches for Sam but he is no longer in the jail. She thinks Li is responsible and goes to her mother.

Li is there but denies hurting Sam though she seems scared. Ana has a laser and aims it to kill Li but Li is killed from behind. Ana recognized her father Menehem  and they speak briefly. He reveals that he poisoned the temple once before when Ciana died and that is why she didn't come back. He also says that he has done it again and anyone who dies while the temple is dark will not come back. He confirms that that is what he was working on. Ana rushes to find Sam, who is unlucky and tends to die in dragon attacks. She finds both Sam and Stef and manages to save them. Her father dies but not before the temple becomes light again. Sam and Stef are badly hurt but heal enough to go home. Ana and Sam sit down at the piano again and begin to recompose her song Ana Incarnate. Ana finally sheds her butterfly wings.

Did I miss anything important? How excited are you for the next novel?

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
