Happily Ever Endings... Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Happily Ever Endings... was born out of sheer frustration. You know how when you read a series and you love it but the last book takes a little while to come out and then you sort of forget parts of the novel? That's what these posts are going to serve to remedy. Happily Ever Ending... is a short post about what happened at the ending of each book that is going to be in a series for people who need a quick reminder of what happened in the previous installment. I hope this saves someone else the frustration that I went through!

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting asThe Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

While James is at school, Juliette thinks it's a good idea to discuss their next move. Adam takes a shower and during that time, loud pounding echoes through the house because someone is at the door. Juliette grabs a set of guns and Adam opens the door to a bleeding Kenji (a soldier friend of Adam's). They take him in and Kenji gives Adam a hard time about taking Juliette with him. Both Adam and Juliette are worried Kenji was followed but Kenji tells them that he knows a place they can run to. He also hits on Juliette which makes Adam angry. James gets home from school after they are packed and a bomb goes off.

They all four flee to the streets but Kenji and James can't keep up well. Adam and Juliette stash them in an abandoned building and go to find a car. They are intercepted by soldiers and race through a warehouse for freedom. They get out but Adam is shot and Juliette is dragged away by Warner who is able to touch her. Juliette lets him kiss her long enough to get a hold of his gun and shoot him. She runs and traces Adam's blood to a different warehouse. She finds Adam bruised and beaten, hanging from a ceiling by his hands awaiting torture.

Together, they get outside and steal a vehicle. They go back for Kenji and James and Kenji drives them to his safe place, revealing that he gave James a sleeping pill. Adam is very badly hurt in the backseat. When they arrive at the place, people come ot take Adam and Juliette freaks out, touching Kenji by accident. She wakes up in a bed and Kenji comes in and tells her he's been part of the resistance the whole time. Then he tells her she needs to meet with the leader of the resistance Castle. She goes to meet with Castle who reveals that he and several others there have special abilities like Juliette. Then he lets her speak with Adam and Juliette reveals that Adam can touch her which Castle finds very interesting.

At the hospital, Juliette is introduced to the twins that can heal people and Kenji tells Adam that he and James will be bunking with him. Though Kenji realizes that Adam and Juliette are together, he doesn't seem overly happy about it. The next day, Juliette meets everyone in the morning and they give her a special suit to wear around the compound. She realizes that they are going to stay and she might be able to make a difference there. As she steps into her suit, she finally begins to feel like she has power of her own life.

  1. Hi Amber! I'm really glad that you liked this one. I'm SO torn about reading this. I've read mixed reviews on this one. I guess it's a hate-it-or-love-it book. Great review though! I'll keep my eyes open for this.

  2. Yeah, I guess Precious is right: You either hate it or you love it, because that books itself is so damn conflicting... For me, I wasn't that satisfied with the ending of it, but I am looking forward to the next one!
    Btw, I tagged you ;)

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
