Happily Ever Endings... The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Happily Ever Endings... was born out of sheer frustration. You know how when you read a series and you love it but the last book takes a little while to come out and then you sort of forget parts of the novel? That's what these posts are going to serve to remedy. Happily Ever Ending... is a short post about what happened at the ending of each book that is going to be in a series for people who need a quick reminder of what happened in the previous installment. I hope this saves someone else the frustration that I went through!

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.

It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love.
She's wrong.

Noah wakes Mara up in the middle of the night and tells her she has to come with him because her little brother has been kidnapped. He drives them to a swamp and they have to pass through a body of water. Alligators pop up and Mara panics and wishes them dead. They get by and Noah says that she has to wake her brother up and get away at any cost. They find him tied up and knocked out in a shed. Someone comes home and they barely escape with him. Her brother doesn't remember the event well and doesn't tell her parents how late they got home. She turns on the television and finds out all the alligators are dead near the area they were at.

At school, she takes her exams. In Spanish, she does really well, answering an unfair question in Spanish but mouths off to the teacher. Jaime tapes the whole thing so that she can't be graded unfair. Later, Jaime reveals that he hates Noah because he used to have a crush on his sister. To get him back, Noah made his own sister fall in love with him and then broke her heart. Anna is rude to Mara and Jaime sticks up for her. Noah gets Mara later and takes her to Jaime who tells her he has been expelled from school for a knife Anna planted on him. Mara's Spanish teacher gives her an F and Jaime is grounded and can't help her with the recording. She talks to the principal who doesn't believe her. She pictures her teacher dead by choking, goes to see her and she is dead.

Mara wanders off by herself and her brother finds her hours later. She goes into a depression and doesn't do anything for days. Noah finally comes over and is able to bring her around. He confesses that he can see people and that he saw her before they met and that he saw her brother when he was in trouble. He can also heal people and reveals that he healed her burned arm. Mara confesses that she believes that she can kill people. On her birthday, they go to a medicine man who helps her remember the night her friend's dead. She remembers that Jude tried to rape her and she brought down the building. Her and Noah kiss and she's pretty sure she almost kills him too. Noah brings her to the zoo and tortures her with bugs. She blacks out and kills them all. She thinks it'll be safer to break up with Noah but he refuses and she loves him so they stay together.

The client her father is representing will finally get his verdict. Noah comes to get Mara and shows her the paper with a picture of where the girl was found dead. It is the same field that her brother was taken to and Noah reveals that he saw the killer wearing the same watch her father's client wore. They get to the courthouse and Mara tells Noah she'll kill her father's client if he gets off. Noah says it will break her up and will always break them up if she does. Her father's client gets off and she focuses on him dying. The mother of the girl that dies shows up in her mind and shoots the client and her father. Noah stays with her father, healing him, though it is uncertain what their relationship is now. The client will be in a coma forever. Mara goes to the police station to turn herself in and sees Jude wearing the same watch as the client. She blacks out.

Did I miss anything? Make sure to let me know! I can't wait for the next novel! This was such a great book!

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
