Happily Ever Endings... A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies

Happily Ever Endings... was born out of sheer frustration. You know how when you read a series and you love it but the last book takes a little while to come out and then you sort of forget parts of the novel? That's what these posts are going to serve to remedy. Happily Ever Ending... is a short post about what happened at the ending of each book that is going to be in a series for people who need a quick reminder of what happened in the previous installment. I hope this saves someone else the frustration that I went through!

A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies

On the night of Skye’s seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites—like fire and ice—Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye’s life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move—only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.
In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can’t help falling for, and Devin, who she can’t stay away from, the consequences of Skye’s choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.
A Beautiful Dark is the first book in a captivating trilogy by debut author Jocelyn Davies.

Skye invites Asher into her house while her Aunt Jo is gone. They go to her room and end up kissing. At school the next day, Asher makes it clear that what they did was a mistake. She gets angry with him but finds solace in Devin. Devin take Skye outside to show her some of his powers and they have a snowball fight. She takes him home and asks if she can come in. They end up sleeping in the same bed but both freak out about it in the morning. Raven visits Skye and tells her that both boys won't care about her once she becomes more powerful than them and picks a side.

Skye and Cassie make up and Cassie invites Skye to her concert at Love The Bean. There Cassie confesses to Dan that she likes him and Devin asks Skye to dance. Later, they have a party and Skye starts to tell Cassie about everything that is happening to her but sees Devin listening. Instead, she confesses she kissed Asher. Devin disappears and Asher shows up but promises to stay out of her way. The next day, Cassie car is broken and Devin offers to fix it. She tells Asher and Asher freaks telling her that Devin's side never does something nice unless there is a plan.

The next morning, Skye finds out that Cassie was in a car crash and her breaks were cut. She thinks it might be Devin and tries to use her supposed power to heal Cassie. Instead, she destroys the machine in the room. In a painc, she runs to her car and is confronted by Raven who reveals she cut the breaks because Devin didn't because Skye is changing him. She then reveals that the Order has been in Skye's life from the beginning, responsible for killing her parents and sending her aunt far away. Skye panics and drives to the mountains where her aunt is but gets in a crash.

Raven appears outside by the car and tells Skye to follow her. Raven leads her to a clearing where the leaders of both sides are there .After some arguing, the leaders demand she choose a side. Skye flips, especially after hearing that both sides were using the boys to play her and lets her powers loose in a dangerous storm. The Order leader kills the other and tells Devin to complete his mission. Devin tries to struggle but can't fight the direct order and plunges a sword into Skye's stomach. Asher grabs Skye and starts to fly away, whispering how sorry he is that he can't heal her. They fly into the beautiful darkness.

The ending to this one definitely packs a punch. Let me know if I've forgotten something important

  1. I DO know that frustration, and I wish you'd do the "Artemis Fowl" and "Sisters Grimm" series for me, if you haven't already. If you have, I feel appropriately sheepish, and would appreciate a link so I can take advantage of your help. :D

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
