Happily Ever Endings... Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey

Happily Ever Endings... was born out of sheer frustration. You know how when you read a series and you love it but the last book takes a little while to come out and then you sort of forget parts of the novel? That's what these posts are going to serve to remedy. Happily Ever Ending... is a short post about what happened at the ending of each book that is going to be in a series for people who need a quick reminder of what happened in the previous installment. I hope this saves someone else the frustration that I went through!

Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey
“It seemed so right. Danny was mine, I was his, and that wasn’t going to work if he was dead. So I would make him not dead, not anymore. I didn’t think any further than what it would feel like to kiss him again, to wrap my arms around him and bury my head against his shoulder.

That was my first mistake. It also turned out to be the biggest.”
When her boyfriend, Danny, is killed in a car accident, Wren can’t imagine living without him. Wild with grief, she uses the untamed powers she’s inherited to bring him back. But the Danny who returns is just a shell of the boy she once loved.
Wren has spent four months keeping Danny hidden, while her life slowly unravels around her. Then Gabriel DeMarnes transfers to her school and somehow, inexplicably, he can sense her secret. Wren finds herself drawn to Gabriel, who is so much more alive than the ghost of the boy she loved. But Wren can’t turn her back on Danny or the choice she made for him—and she realizes she must find a way to make things right, even if it means breaking her own heart.
Amy Garvey’s transcendent teen debut is perfect for fans of Shiver and Beautiful Creatures. Wren’s unforgettable voice and story will stay with readers long after the last page is turned.

Wren gets a phone call from Jessica, making sure they are still on for the sleep over which she confirms. After, she goes out to see Danny and realizes Danny is no longer in the garage. In a panic, she starts to wander the streets but can't find him at his house. She calls Gabriel who convinces her to go home and pretend to get up so she won't get in trouble. Her mother checks in on her and she tells her everything is fine. Then she gets a call that Gabriel has found Danny at the site of his crash.

She finds Danny and confronts him. When she confirms he's dead, he tries to attack her but she puts him to sleep. They bring Danny to Gabriel's house and Wren finds out Olivia knows everything about what she did to Danny. Olivia also has an idea of someone who can help her. Olivia takes her to see one of their friends who can do things like Wren. Wren explains the situation and the woman laughs at her, telling her she that Wren is much more powerful than she is. She suggests that Wren needs to undo the spell on the next full moon, only a few days away. Wren misses the sleepover with her friends, causing them to be mad at her again.

Wren's mother is angry at her and they get in a huge fight. Wren accuses her mother of keeping secrets about their power and walks out. She stays at Gabriel's until her aunt convinces her to meet for coffee. Wren agrees and her aunt takes her home. Wren thinks it's a good sign that her mother will let her aunt in the house and they seem to finally be speaking. Her mother admits her part in Wren's rebellion and reveals that she is still in contact with Wren's father. She says that one day, Wren can speak to him and find out why he left. Wren's mom agrees to let Wren do what she needs to do, trusting her.

Wren works to re-write the spell she made to make Danny rise from the dead. At school, she apologizes to Jessica and tells her that she'll have to keep things from them sometimes. Jessica neither accepts noracknowledges this. Gabriel insists that he come with her and they get into a fight at school. Jessica comes up and tells Gabriel to back off, accepting Wren's apology. Later that night, Wren goes to Gabriel's to collect Danny. Gabriel tells her to be careful. She takes Danny to the graveyard and reverses the spell, finally getting to say goodbye on her own terms. She feels incredibly lonely when he leaves. She walks back and finds Gabriel waiting for her. He walks her home, hand and hand.

Did I miss anything important? How excited are you for the next novel?

  1. Oh? is there going to be a secuel? I've been wanting to read this book since... it came out, but I haven't, mostly because suddenly I have 'others' book-priorities & push the book from my TBR list to the JUST-a-little-more one.

Thinking of writing something below? Well, that's why you are awesome! I always love feedback!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
