Happily Ever Endings... Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake

Happily Ever Endings... was born out of sheer frustration. You know how when you read a series and you love it but the last book takes a little while to come out and then you sort of forget parts of the novel? That's what these posts are going to serve to remedy. Happily Ever Ending... is a short post about what happened at the ending of each book that is going to be in a series for people who need a quick reminder of what happened in the previous installment. I hope this saves someone else the frustration that I went through!

Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.
So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.
When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.
But she, for whatever reason, spares Cas's life.

After finding a jogger ripped to pieces, Cas confronts the recently freed Anna and believes her when she says she didn't kill him. Thomas and Carmel are having a harder time and Thomas commincaites that he understands why-- because Cas is in love with Anna. They decide to focus on getting his athame back from Will.

They all come up with a plan to get into Will's house while Will is at school but Carmel calls the next day and tells them that Will isn't there. Cas and Thomas sneak into Will's house anyway and find Will and Chase's bodies torn apart in chunks and what looks like bite marks. On the way to grab Anna, Cas tells them about his father and they split up so Cas and Anna can go get his mother. His mother is at the house but anna can't get in because of the ward on the house. Cas tells his mother who demands they leave but Cas sees his athame tucked under his bed.
The creature that killed his father comes down from the attic where he has been living, twirling Tybalt's tail in his hands and reveals he has been following Cas along and that he is the source of Cas's bad dreams. The Obeahman breathes a curse on Cas saying he must kill Anna with his athame, which has been tied to The Obeahman this whole time, or Cas will die by the morning. They devise a plan to lure The Obeahman out by using Anna as bait and luring him with Cas's mother's spells. Cas and Anna share a kiss, their affection for each other lingering in the air.
The Obeahman comes when he feels Anna's blood on the blade and Thomas and his grandfather start to bind him but The Obeahman throws a couch, stopping the spell. He beats up Cas and Anna is disappearing. Anna cracks the floor where her curse was and a red hole appears. She battles The Obeahman and is able to step into the hole with him, disappearing to who knows where. Thomas drags Cas out of the house and Cas blacks out. Cas wakes up in the hospital, sad but hopeful, because he believes that he can find Anna with his new friends.

  3. What a great idea! I hate when a sequel takes so long to come out, and then does not do any kind of a recap!I just went through that with Hallowed!
