Stork by Wendy Delsol
Family secrets. Lost memories. And the arrival of an ancient magical ability that will reveal everything.
Sixteen-year-old Katla LeBlanc has just moved from Los Angeles to Minnesota. As if it weren’t enough that her trendy fashion sense draws stares, Katla soon finds out that she’s a Stork, a member of a mysterious order of women tasked with a very unique duty. But Katla’s biggest challenge may be finding her flock at a new school. Between being ignored by Wade, the arrogant jock she stupidly fooled around with, and constantly arguing with gorgeous farm boy and editor-in-chief Jack, Katla is relieved when her assignment as the school paper’s fashion columnist brings with it some much-needed friendship. But as Homecoming approaches, Katla uncovers a shocking secret about her past — a secret that binds her fate to Jack’s in a way neither could have ever anticipated. With a nod to Hans Christian Andersen and inspired by Norse lore, Wendy Delsol’s debut novel introduces a hip and witty heroine who finds herself tail-feathers deep in small-town life.

Katla decides to drive out to the other little city neighboring hers to start scratching her head and calling the meeting for the Stork Society. While there, she writes to her grandmother and goes to drop off the letter and nearly gets crushed by a huge log truck. During the moment the truck spins out of control, Jack's cap floats off and when she turns around the truck is where she was standing and she thinks she sees Grim and a big black bird. She hurries to the meeting and notices Grim is absent. At the meeting, she tells the Storks her three vessels for the soul and they agree on Kat's decision that it should go to her mother. She also tells them what she saw at the accident.
Hulda reveals that a society of Ravens have been dealing with damnation and dark arts for hundreds of years and that Grim has been accused of dealing with them once before. Hulda reassures Kat that Grim was cleared from the last time too. Jack finally arrives back at school and takes Kat to the lake where they both should have drowns. He tells her his side of the story and that he thought he felt wings around him. They finalize their plans for the dance.
Kat's dad comes into town and Kat tells him about Hulda's abandoned warehouse. He's reluectant to see it but Hulda agrees so Kat's dad does too. Hulda meets them and talks about karma and earthquakes. There is an earthquake in California, her dad's plans almost fall through until he mentions Hulda's warehouse and the Japanese investors agree that Inga (karma) Warehouse is perfect. Hulda also sells her fabric shop to a Starbucks guy (with a logo just like Kat made up). Jack and Kat go to the dance and have a great time and Wade gives them directions to his party.
They show up there and Wade tricks them into one of the openings to the gate. He reveals that he is a Raven and his grandmother told him all about the Stork Society. He also reveals that Jack is a maigcal creature and that if he kills Kat (the Robin, bringer of change) and Jack he will gain entrance into the sky-realm. He sets Jack on fire but Jack is able to use the lasto fh is power to strike Wade with lightening before he takes Kat into the realm to kill her. Hulda and Grim come out at Kat's call and heal Jack. Jack reveals that he is Jack Frost. They go back to Kat's house to find Stanley there (after he left when Kat's mom revealed she was pregnant). Kat and Jack go out back and agree they are stronger together but worry that their troubles might not be over.Did I miss something important? Please leave a comment and let me know!
