Happily Ever Endings... Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ranson Riggs

Happily Ever Endings... was born out of sheer frustration. You know how when you read a series and you love it but the last book takes a little while to come out and then you sort of forget parts of the novel? That's what these posts are going to serve to remedy. Happily Ever Ending... is a short post about what happened at the ending of each book that is going to be in a series for people who need a quick reminder of what happened in the previous installment. I hope this saves someone else the frustration that I went through!

Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. And a strange collection of very curious photographs. It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children who once lived here—one of whom was his own grandfather—were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a desolate island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography,Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

Jacob sneaks out of his room during a really bad storm when he finds out that the other bird watcher has disappeared and the museum keeper is found dead and half eaten. He makes it to Miss Peregrine's and informs her that he believes the hollows are on the island. Miss Peregrine puts the house in a lock down and includes Jacob in it even though he fights with her because he feels he needs to warn his father. She won't allow it. Emma, Enoch, and Jacob decide to sneak out to warn Jacob's father and to re-animate the museum keeper to see what he was killed by.
They head into the fisherman's ice shed and Enoch re-animates him. He confirms that it was a hollow and then the bird watcher shows up and reveals that he is a wright. He has been following Jacob around since he was young, first in the form of his school bus driver then as his lawn-care guy and finally as his therapist. He offers Jacob his freedom in return for him helping to track down other peculiar. Jacob declines and then they are forced to fight a hollow. They are able to escape and Jacob kills the hollow right before he is going to be eaten. He and Emma kiss after she saves him from the swamp.
While they were distracted with the hollow, the wright came and took Miss Peregrine and the other teacher. The kids were locked in the basement but Melvin followed the wright to the old lighthouse. They get out there and devise a plan to get to the lighthouse. Melvin gets shot but they make it to the lighthouse and Emma and Jacob run up the rickety steps to confront the wright. Jacob gets the gun and shoots the wright as he is struggling with Emma. The wright drops the cage with the bird form of Miss Peregrine and the other teacher.
Emma and Jacob jump into the water and are able to rescue Miss Peregrine when the cage opens but the other teacher is scooped up by a submarine manned by wrights. The time loop is broken and the bomb has hit their house. Miss Peregrine can't change back into her human form and Jacob can't come home. They decide to leave the island to try to find where the wrights are taking all the shifters but it could be anywhere in time. They all pile into boats and leave the island off towards adventure and living their own lives.

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
