Happily Ever Endings... Mercy by Rebecca Lim

Happily Ever Endings... was born out of sheer frustration. You know how when you read a series and you love it but the last book takes a little while to come out and then you sort of forget parts of the novel? That's what these posts are going to serve to remedy. Happily Ever Ending... is a short post about what happened at the ending of each book that is going to be in a series for people who need a quick reminder of what happened in the previous installment. I hope this saves someone else the frustration that I went through!

Mercy by Rebecca Lim
Mercy ‘wakes’ on a school bus bound for Paradise, a small town where everyone knows everyone else’s business… or thinks they do. But Mercy has a secret life. She is an angel, doomed to return repeatedly to Earth, taking on a new ‘persona’ each time she does, in an effort to resolve a cataclysmic rift between heavenly beings. The first of a brilliant new series sees Mercy meeting Ryan, an eighteen-year-old whose sister was kidnapped two years ago and is presumed dead. When another girl is also kidnapped, Mercy knows she has to act quickly and use extraordinary powers to rescue her, even if it means exposing her true identity.

Ryan visits Mercy during one of the final rehearsals and tells her that another girl has been taken. They pour over the newspaper until they realize that they hadn't looked at the choir angle closely enough, especially when they see one of the older choir director's names appear in the article, along with the fact that he lives by a church which is exactly like Ryan's dreams. They make an impromptu drive to the teachers house and find an underground storage unit with a padlock but the teacher comes home before they can get in. They make plans to go back that night.

Meanwhile, Mercy is visited by one of the Eight, Uri, in the night and begins to remember who and what she is, even if she can't get the word. She begs him to intervene and help her find the missing girl but he refuses. Ryan drops her off at school and she makes it to the afternoon practice, hiding out in the bathroom until everyone is gone accept for her frenemy Tiffany who is cornering the young, incredibly handsome choir teacher Paul Stenborg. Mercy helps him get rid of her and Paul suggests they meet for coffee and discuss her future. Instead, Mercy grills him about the old choir teacher, confessing that she believes he captured both girls.
Later, she is walking home and is abducted. Down in the dark basement, she meets both girls and convinces them they are going to be fine because Ryan is coming. She also tells them about her true self. It becomes apparent that it not the old choir teacher but rather Paul Stenborg that is the monster abducting the girls. He has physical and mentally abused Lauren past the point of recognition and comes down to look at his new prize, Mercy/Carmen.When he picks her up by the iron collar around her neck for not singing, Mercy snaps, shedding Carmen's body for her true form. She punishes Paul by plucking out his eye (another clue as to what she really is) and rescues the girls, leaving Paul to wander blindly in his chamber underneath the house.
Mercy ends up back in Carmen's body in the hospital where Ryan makes a surprise visit, eternally grateful and in awe of what Mercy really is (after being told by his sister). After she is injected with more medicine, she knows she is slipping out of that body (something new for her). Ryan asks her to stay and when she says she can't, he asks how he can find. They share a single quick kiss and then she slips away... into someone entirely new.
Did I get all the important information? If not, leave it in the comments!

This blog is an award free zone. With the demand of a full time job, blogging time is becoming much more precious and I just don't have the time to meet the demands of awards. Thanks so much for thinking of me anyway!
