Cover: I was excited about this novel the first time I saw this seriously amazing cover. I love the dark purple and hot pink of the title. I also like the way the model is standing--tall and defiant exactly like Kylie. This is definitely a great cover!
First Sentence: " "This isn't funny," my father yelled."

The Mini-Review: Fun, exciting and jam packed with an amazing cast of paranormal characters, Born At Midnight is the type of camp everyone wishes they went to!

Book Summary:
Don’t miss this spectacular new series that will steal your heart and haunt your dreams,  Welcome to Shadow Falls camp, nestled deep in the woods of a town called Fallen…
One night Kylie Galen finds herself at the wrong party, with the wrong people, and it changes her life forever.  Her mother ships her off to Shadow Falls—a camp for troubled teens, and within hours of arriving, it becomes painfully clear that her fellow campers aren’t just “troubled.”  Here at Shadow Falls, vampires, werewolves, shapshifters, witches and fairies train side by side—learning to harness their powers, control their magic and live in the normal world.
Kylie’s never felt normal, but surely she doesn’t belong here with a bunch of paranormal freaks either.  Or does she?  They insist Kylie is one of them, and that she was brought here for a reason.  As if life wasn’t complicated enough, enter Derek and Lucas.  Derek’s a half-fae who’s determined to be her boyfriend, and Lucas is a smokin’ hot werewolf with whom Kylie shares a secret past.  Both Derek and Lucas couldn’t be more different, but they both have a powerful hold on her heart.
Even though Kylie feels deeply uncertain about everything, one thing is becoming painfully clear—Shadow Falls is exactly where she belongs…
Book Review:

Shadow Falls Camp is absolutely a place I would like to visit and being there with Kylie was an absolute pleasure. The fun and breezy reads are far and few in between with the plethora of dark paranormal romances which are normal my cup of tea. Born At Midnight was none of those and yet it was one of my favorite reads this year.

I loved Kylie from the first moment I met her. Her life was falling apart and yet, she was able to steer her way through because she knew who she was. I thought she hanndled everything that happened to her like such a trooper and it was a pleasure watching her grow. The camp aspect was amazing. I love the atmosphere and her fellow campers. It was great to try and guess which type of paranormal creature each person was. Her two friends--Miranda and Della-- both felt real and had personalities and issues of their own. They only got through things together. I was especially interested in Della and Kylie's relationship and I loved that this novel addressed what being true friends is all about.

Both boys in this novel were yummy and swoon-worthy. I could totally understand why Kylie felt the way she did about both of them. The scene with both boys were full of sexual tensions and while they were few and far between, they were well worth the wait. This novel was written in third person which is usually a bad thing for me but I found it easy to connect with Kylie. That says a lot for the writing.

Born At Midnight combines a fun idea with supernaturally great characters, an amazing plot and some great big questions. I had a blast watching Kylie learn just how special she is and can't wait to continue her journey in the second novel. You can bet I'm all packed and ready to go back to camp right along with Kylie!
