Waiting on Wednesday is meme hosted by Jill of Breaking The Spine where you can post about upcoming books you're looking forward to.
The next book on my list of ones to snag is a sequel to one of my all time favorite YA novels because of the strong female heroine, the wonderfully unique plot, the twist on a old classic and the beautiful writing. No guys, it's not The Hunger Games (though it all of those things and something I'm looking forward to). It's Ascendant, the sequel to Rampant.
Ascendant by Diana Peterfreund
Now a fully trained unicorn hunter, Astrid Llewelyn is learning that she can’t solve all her problems with a bow and arrow. Her boyfriend has left Rome, the Cloisters is in dire financial straits, her best friend’s powers are mysteriously disintegrating, and her hope of becoming a scientist seems to be nothing but an impossible dream.
So when she’s given the opportunity to leave the Cloisters and use her skills as part of a scientific quest to discover the Remedy, Astrid leaps at the chance. Finally, she can have exactly what she wants—or can she? At Gordian headquarters deep in France, Astrid begins to question everything she had believed: her love for Giovanni, her loyalty to the Cloisters, and—most of all—her duty as a hunter. Should Astrid be saving the world from killer unicorns or saving unicorns from the world?
So as I said before, this is a book I can't wait for! I loved the first novel (it weaseled its way into my top 5 favorite novels are all time!) so much. It was such an entertaining read and was such a unique way to portray unicorns and there were a lot of complex ideas floating around. I can't wait for the next book to be out. I mean, look at this cover!
It will be around to knock your socks off September 28, 2010.
What are you waiting for?

ReplyDeleteAfter reading her Secret Society Girl series, I was surprised to see Peterfreund trek into unicorn territory, so to speak. But you've got me curious now, so I think I'm going to have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad everyone seems to be taking a second look! Peterfreund's writing is amazing, the story is great and the characters are unforgettable. Plus, who doesn't like an exotic location like Rome?
